An otaku(?) in Malaysia

I know that this has been release ages ago and by now every other otaku and their cat must have played through it. As for me…only like yesterday I’ve actually had spare time to peruse through the Visual Novel (VN). Gomen-ne Shinji xD.

Hisa-chan kawaii…

‘The Childhood friend’ is a short VN made by Shinji & Co. The VN revolve around the main character name K. K is an average salary man who one day dreamt about his childhood friend Hisa. After this somewhat revelation inducing dream, K decide to return to the town where he spent his childhood. Well, I won’t spoil the story any further XD. The story within The Childhood friend’ falls into the ‘short but sweet’ category. The storyline itself does make sense, which I reckon is a good thing. People who are into the otaku culture will appreciate the reference inserted within the VN. And I do had a good laugh with the humour within The Childhood friend’ (the paneling sucks is so one of my catchphrase now ^^).

Characterisation within the VN is good as well. K is a character I can relate to. He is your average Joe who works and has his day to day worries. And clearly he is an otaku as well, which is made clear within this VN. As for Hisa, she serves as a focal point for K inner conscience as well as his reality. In a sense she also compels the reader to know her more as why she is the reason why K embarks on his journey.

As for any work of this nature, improvement can be make. Personally for me, I would love to see the story expanded and maybe some more background info added to the dramatis personae. Aside from that, for a first time project I reckon this was way awesome.
