Isn’t it nice to see otaku culture used for good?
A freshman in Kyoto Seika University, Daisaku Chiba was fatally stabbed on a street in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. Before he succumbed to his fatal injury, he was quoted saying “I have no idea who stabbed me”. Daisaku Chiba was a freshman in the Kyoto Seika University manga program. To help in the investigation, his teachers have created a manga pamphlet that they will hope persuade people to provide information of the fatal attack. The pamphlet contains probable information of the suspect as well as stories about Chiba life. They hope to distribute the pamphlet around the Kyoto railway station and other places as well.
First, I would like to extend my condolence to Daisaku Chiba family. As I said above, isn’t it wonderful to see how otaku popular culture is used for good. And even better is that it’s getting a favourable light this time around instead of getting bashed by the authority and media. I hope they will catch the killer of Daisaku Chiba.

poor guy =(.
Thats pretty cool to use manga to catch a criminal.
Just like detective canon eh?
Manga is actually pretty common throughout Japan for this kind of stuff. Instruction manuals, informational pamphlets, learning texts, and many other things are made in manga.
Really, it’s anime that’s viewed as being more for kids/otaku. Manga is a lot more mainstream and widespread.
Anyway, back o/t, kind of an interesting use it’s being put to here.
